GCSE Physical Education

Course Description

 

The GCSE PE course is for those students who enjoy PE and different practical activities.

 

Course Content

 

For the practical lessons students will cover a range of different activities including badminton, rounders, circuit training and orienteering.

 

Students will also study a range of theoretical components including factors affecting fitness, the muscular and skeletal system and different training methods.

 

Assessment

 

60% Theory in the form of 2 one hour exams.

 

  1. Applied anatomy and physiology and physical training
  2. Socio-cultural influences, sports psychology, health, fitness and well-being

 

 

40% Practical Assessment

 

Students will be assessed in a number of different activities and marked out of 25, with their best 4 marks being put forward for moderation.

 

Students will be assessed using GCSE grades from A*-G.

 

Future Opportunities

Students could progress onto the A level PE course or onto BTEC Level 3 at KS5.

 

There are leadership opportunities that students can get involved with and be assessed as an official.
